Name:  Bruno
Testimonial:  Bruno was a real hard-luck case. A man came into the shelter saying he had to surrender him because he wasn't good with his other dog and kids. A friend had given him the dog and he couldn't keep him anymore. We went out and saw a very sad looking, shaking and drooling dog in the back of a pick-up truck. Staff tried to put a lead around his head to bring him in and he cowered and shook more. It became very obvious to us that this dog had been abused and probably hit around the head many times. The staff and volunteers worked with Bruno and he warmed up very slowly. He mistrusted everyone, but was not aggressive in the least. He would just cower or if a stranger was in looking at animals, bark at them and turn them off to getting to know him. He was with us for what seemed like an eternity, but he impvoed greatly and it turned out that he loved to play with other dogs and would spend hours in the play yard racing back and forth with a new found friend. Judy Armstrong, a second grade teacher at Mt. Markham School in West Winfield had invited board member Dottie Gaffey to do an educational program with the four second grade classes. Judy said there would be a food collection and she would call when it was ready to be picked up. Judy and her sister decided instead to bring the collection the shelter themselves. While there, they looked around and saw Bruno and were amazed that he had been there that long. Bruno was brought into the office to meet them outside of his kennel and he was very sweet and Judy decided to foster him and tell her son, Fred, who lives in Old Forge about him. Bruno got along great with Judy's black lab, Maggie and they became best friends. Fred has filled us in on Bruno many times. He loves the Adirondacks, goes ice fishing with Fred and swims with Maggie and is enjoying the good life with the Armstrong family. Bruno and Maggie came to the Mutt Strut with Judy and to see him after more than a year was wonderful. He still has those same beautiful eyes, but they aren't sad anymore! Thanks Armstrong Family. (See Bruno (left) and best friend Maggie relaxing and enjoying life)
