Humane Education
Humane Education is a huge part of what the Herkimer County Humane Society wants to relate to the public and to the children particularly, as they are future pet owners of the world.

If your school or organization would like a representative from the Herkimer County Humane Society to come and speak about humane education, please call the shelter at (315) 866-3255 and a representative will call you to set up a program.

We will cater the program to your particular needs. If you have younger students we talk about what it takes to take care of a pet and be responsible. For older children, we not only talk about pet responsibility, we place a strong emphass on spay/neuter.

For some staggering statistics, think about this:

In 7 years, one unspayed female cat can be responsible for 420,000 kittens!
In 6 years, one unspayed female dog can be responsible for 67,000 puppies!

As many of you know, no animal leaves the Herkimer County Humane Society without being spayed or neutered. We have had kids ask what will happen if all the animals are spayed and neutered, will there be any more animals. We can safely say that there will be. We would love to have a "going out of business sale" at the Herkimer County Humane Society, but we don't see that happening in any of our lifetimes.
